Ferguson Fashion Show

Our 8 year old daughter asked for dress up clothes for Christmas this year. Do you have any idea how expensive dress up clothes are for older kids? Holy guacamole! Thankfully, my daughter told me her wish list the day before Halloween. So Halloween and the day after, I was out bargain hunting for costumes marked 50-75% off.

Ta-da! Dress up clothes!

I not only found awesome costumes - everything from Hannah Montana to Renaissance dresses - but also some very cool accessories. Glittery microphones, a child's long blond wig, fairy shoes, princess wands, and fuzzy hats, purses, and boas. Heck, I even found Star Wars Light Sabers for all the kids for $1 each! But we'll save that for another post . . .

My daughter was ecstatic! She's been dressing up and putting on fashion shows ever since. And she's not the only one who's gotten into it.

Our oldest son is too macho to dress up, but I guess being the fashion show announcer and using the microphone is pretty cool. Although, I must admit that he sounds more like a circus announcer than a fashion show announcer. Shh! Don't tell him!

Here are some fabulous pictures and an absolutely hilarious video for you to enjoy . . .

Introducing Roberta the Rock Star . . .

Our son sure looks good in a dress, don't you think? He can sing too - check out the video below!

Our oldest son's new Bionicle even got into the fashion show! See how these incredible wings accent his outfit and coloring?

And now introducing our Super Model, MJ . . .

Very well done, everyone. Take a bow!!!

Super Model MJ and her Announcers Isaac and Rob.

You're right on the hours of fun. We've had several fashions shows each day. It's fun to see how excited they are about the dress up clothes!

Cute pics, Danyelle. You're on a winner there, with dressing-up clothes!

How's Isaac, by the way?

Hi Anne - I'm going to send out another update later today. But he's doing pretty well. The antibiotics are killing off the infection, and his pain levels have decreased. So that's wonderful! Thank you for asking!

What a fun time you all had! I remember those days with the boys - I always bought Halloween costumes on clearance so that the entire neighborhood kids could dress up and put on plays

Kathy - I bet your neighbors kids just loved you! I think find costumes after Halloween is going to become a tradition. We have a babysitter who kept her dress up clothes from when she was younger & she brings her "magic trunk" with her when she comes to watch the kids. They absolutely love digging through it. We'll have to do something like that for when my girls one day start babysitting, too.

Danyelle, my sisters have trunks of costumes, as does my mom, the grandkids have a blast with them. And what a great idea to start looking the day after Halloween.

Well, that does it! I definitely need to start a dress-up trunk of my own! Now I wish I would have kept all of our little girl dress up stuff from when MJ was 2 & 3. We didn't think we'd be able to have more kids after Rob and I got rid of them all. Of course, now Anna's getting to the age where she'd like some dress up things of her own, too. Maybe for her birthday in February . . . :)

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Danyelle,
I forgot to mention - every year for Fathers Day, the boys put their dads suit, tie, dress shoes, dress hats, etc on and I take a pic of them to place on a Father's Day card - it's always super cute and I love how each year they are starting to fit in to the clothes

Oh, and if you have any fondue recipes that the kids love - please head over to my blog and share it as that is my new post for the next few days. - preparing for the New Year

:)

I did this when my girls were small--the after halloween thing worked great. Ten years later my 7 year old is still playing with them. I also found some great stuff at thrift shops. Everytime I'd go in I'd just take a gander at the fancy dresses and found a few size 0 that work great. You get a gold star for giving such a great gift!

Ooh - love the discount store idea. MJ's birthday is next week. Maybe I'll make a trip by Goodwill and see if I can find anything fun!
