Timing

Sometimes blogging is really hard. If you're on my QOTC email list, then you already know the following news. It's so much easier when I can just type a few sentences and be done. But actually creating a longer post is . . . well, not fun.

So, has anyone checked out my side bar lately? Notice there's some information that's missing? My book launch has been moved. Well, not just moved. But put on hold - until, well, my publisher takes it off hold. And hey, ignore that little countdown clock thingy. I haven't removed it yet cause I need to find out from my hubby what I need to save so I don't lose it.  =)  Yep, I'm so not tech savvy - but that's not a surprise, right?

Thank you to everyone who has been emailing me and asking for (dis)Abilities and the Gospel. I would love, love, love to send you personalized copies of the book once it's printed and available. And yes, when I have a new release date, I'll let y'all know. I really appreciate all of your support and enthusiasm for my book! You guys are the best!

So, what now? That's what you're all thinking right?

This is where the whole timing thing comes in. I love the scripture that talks about a season for all things. Well, now that I won't be traveling all over the Western & Midwestern U.S., some really great things have opened up for me.

Currently, I am fine tuning the synopsis of a children's picture book I wrote called Sarah's Special Friend. It's a sweet story about Sarah, her Sunday School class, and Micah, a boy with autism. At first, Sarah finds Micah and the way he acts intimidating, but once she learns more about him, they become good friends. There are some fun quirky moments that make you giggle and some very sweet moments that warm your heart. Once I have the synopsis done, I can begin querying agents. I've done lots of research and have narrowed down the list. Keep your fingers crossed (I know mine will be!).

Once the querying gets going, I'll start writing on my romantic suspense novel, Rebound. I'm excited to begin work on it again. It's a story I really love!

I'm also working on some freelance editing. Right now, I'm reading for Heather Justesen and her latest work-in-progress. It's fabulous stuff, people! If anyone else is in need of a freelance editor, you can find out more about my services here.

Other than the changes in my travel plans this summer, I'm actually quite enjoying my time with my munchkins. Summer is such a fun time! We've been out playing in the sprinklers, taking trips to the park, and eating lots of ice cream. Which is not so great for my waistline. I'm hoping that the extra activity vs ice cream cancels each other out!

Now, I'm going to head back to my netbook and finish editing for Heather. I hope y'all are enjoying your summer so far! BTW - I'll be posting MJ's dance recital pictures this later this week.

thinking of you girl. can't be easy to have your release date pushed back--indefinitely!!!

but it will come out. you know it will!

On another note, is it weird to be working on a book that has the same title of another book?

You have a great attitude, Danyelle. Timing is everything in this market, and I know yours will work out the way it's supposed to in the grand scheme of things. Good luck with querying.

Tamara - there's a seriously funny story behind that! =)

So, Heather Justesen and I have been buddies and editing for each other for over five years. I've been working on my Rebound for - about the last three years. Only here and there because I was researching and writing DAG.

Before Heather submitted her Rebound, she was trying to think of titles. We went back and forth, brainstorming, etc. The one thing I specifically said was "Just don't steal my title cause it's totally perfect!"

When she was ready to submit, she pulled up her folder and as she was going through it, she found she had tentatively titled it Rebound. She thought it was good enough for a title and submitted it. She called me all excited when she got her contract. I asked her what the title was going to be and she said she wasn't sure yet, but she had submitted Rebound. I reminded her it was my working title. She had totally forgotten and was mortified. Then she said, "Don't worry. They'll probably change it." I replied, "I bet you they won't. It's totally perfect - for your book and for mine."

And of course, they kept it. Now I totally razz her about how it was mine first and she stole it. But it's all good and fine. Just a super funny story.

Besides, by the time my book comes out (years from now I'm sure), it won't be as obvious that our books both have the same titles. And that's assuming my publisher doesn't change the title. =)

Great attitude! You're amazing. I hope you have a wonderful summer and can get some writing done. Please let us know when you receive a release date for your book. Sometimes indefinitely is sooner than you think. :)

We can eat virtual brownies and drink 7Up together, Danyelle. My book for next summer, 2011, got bumped back 6 months. Bummer!

Danyelle Ferguson said...

Oh Kimberly! So not fun! But your book I'm reviewing is still coming out this summer, right? And hey, this will give you more time to tour and build up with that book. Will you travel to do author readings for any of the Scholastic book fairs?

Yep, The Healing Spell is out in 3 weeks!!! Gulp.

The bumped book was supposed to come out next summer and it's being bummed to probably early 2012 due to un-forseen complications way too hard to explain here . . . :-)

AND I'm sending out a FB Event Notification soon, but I'm scheduled for a book launch party at The King's English in SLC July 8th at 7 p.m.!!! I'm psyched! (If you're in town, come on down!)

I just read your bio on your website and I didn't realize you had a son with autism. My oldest has Aspergers. It is a tough road. You have my empathy and prayers. And how cool that you two founded the GIANT steps organization. Kudos to you!

Oh, Danyelle, I'm sorry it's been pushed back. Let us know as soon as you can when you've got a new date for it!
