Some Days You Just Need Chocolate

See this girl having a raging temper tantrum? Well, cut off the pig-tails and replace the dress with jeans and a t-shirt and you have a perfect picture of my four-year-old son about fifteen minutes ago.

It all started with the Nintendo DS game, Lego Star Wars. I gave him the choice to play on the DS or downstairs while I cleaned the kids' bathroom. He chose the DS. And he played quite happily until the very end of my cleaning - at which time he came in crying and being very loud. I asked him to quiet down because his baby sister was sleeping and we were right down the hall from her room. He kept saying, "I can't turn left! I want to turn left, and I can't!"

I tried to explain that when you can't turn a certain direction, it means you need to go another way. But no. He proceeded to cry and cry and cry. I tried to help, really I did. Finally, I told him that he could either stop crying and play for a few more minutes or he could be finished right then. And he kept crying. So we said "Good-bye" to the DS and I sent him downstairs to play.

Oh. My. Goodness.

The screams and the wailing coming from the playroom were awful! He kept repeating, "I want the Nintendo!" over and over. I put away my cleaning supplies, went down to the playroom, then put my little guy down for a nap in his sister's room. He cried all the way, climbed into the bed, and was still crying when I closed the door.

Do you ever had those moments when you feel like you can't do anything right as Mom? Then instantly feel drained? That's how I felt. At moments like this, chocolate is the one thing I just crave like crazy. Of course, did I shop for chocolate when I went to the store? Nope. I definitely need to re-stock my chocolate stash. Although, I did find a few mini-chocolate bars and I have some yummy chocolate marshmallow ice cream in the freezer. That should tide me over.

And as I finish this post, I hear nothing but blissful peace from downstairs. I truly hope my son is taking a much needed nap!

Oh, I understand that need for chocolate! It usually hits when Melissa needs a nap and doesn't want one! :o) I have a few cheap "chocolate fix" ideas. On Betty Crocker's website, there is a coupon for 75 cents off a pouch of cookie mix. The mix is only $1.50 at Walmart, so for 75 cents plus a stick of butter, voila, cookies! The Oatmeal Chocolate Chip ones are great. There is also a coupon for frosting there online. If you use that and get cheap cake mix, you can make homemade Oreos (cake mix cookies with frosting in between) for about $2.00. I like to keep these things in my pantry so when I want fresh cookies, I can have them fast!

You definatly have your hands full. I think my son's constant temper tantrums can be the direct cause of my "full figure". That's my excuse and I'm sticken to it..LOL

I had the same kind of day with my 3 year old. She cried from the minute she woke up and didn't stop for a couple of hours. I called Rich crying because I didn't know what to do. I truly wondered if I would make it through the day. I know how you feel about not doing anything right as a mom. Chocolate is the best solution!

Hillary - You should have called. We could have commiserated together. ;-)

I keep a bag of baking chocolate chips on hand for just such an occasion. I like to put them in the freezer first, so yummy!

Hey Kellie - That does sound yummy! I hardly ever buy chocolate chips because my son is allergic to milk. I didn't even think about them! I'll have to look to see if I can find some yummy milk chocolate chips. Mmmm . . .

Danyelle,

You are a much more positive person that I am...my only thought at the bottom of your post was "She hears 'blissful peace' from downstairs and assumes her son is taking a nap....I hear 'blissful peace' and immediately hit panic mode because that silence in my household means my 4 y.o. and two 5 y.o.'s have just found themselves a heap of trouble to get into." :)

Days like those make me wish I could just hook an I.V. up to a permanent drip of chocolate..no taking the time to savor the flavor. Just get it in the system as soon as possible.

:-D

Yes, some days just need chocolate! And, some days, kids just need a nap!!

De - If someone ever makes a chocolate drip that goes right into the system that doesn't involve needles, I'll be one of the first people standing in line for it. :)

If I hadn't known he was so cranky and tired, I certainly would have thought he was into something he shouldn't have been. Thank goodness all he was into were zzzz's.

Rebecca - Amen! :)
